Web/Mobile App Critique

I am a religious online shopper. So, naturally, when reading the prompt for this discussion post, I thought of my most frequently used apps, which are shopping apps. I tend to use Amazon and clothing apps the most. The one I ended up going with is a clothing app called SHEIN. This app is an online shopping app, based out of China. They sell clothes, shoes, jewelry, household items, gadgets, house decor, and so many other things. The items on the app are sold at a pretty cheap price, while still being good quality. Because of the quality of items for a cheap price, the app is increasingly gaining popularity very fast. Below, I will breakdown the app in terms of usability, design, and functionality. I will also be giving a recommendation for each category on things I think it could improve on.

Usability

When it comes to shopping online, the most frustrating thing is. an app that is difficult to navigate. I can speak for myself and say that I hate an app that is hard to shop on, has too many glitches, and is just hard to use. If an app is any of these things, it is an automatic no for me. I immediately exit the app and will find something else that offers the same products with less difficulties. In my opinion, the usability of the app I chose, SHEIN, is quite easy. As you can see in the screenshot that I provided below, at the bottom and it has all of the tabs needed to shop. It isn't hard to navigate through the tabs and everything is easy to read. I feel like the tabs creates a better flow of shopping and makes it a lot easier for the consumer to have a good experience while shopping.

Sometimes, when I am shopping, I know exactly what I am looking for. Most likely, I saw the item on social media or from someone I know. However, on the app, the ability to search a particular item is not so easy. After clicking the search bar and typing in the name of the item, instead of that item appearing first, it sometimes can be a few rows down. You can see in the screenshot below that I searched "SHEIN Drawstring Ruched Side BodyCon Dress" and the actual dress I was looking for ended up being 4 rows down, which it should have been the first one to pop up, especially since I typed the entire name exactly how it is labeled. Which this being said, my only recommendation for the usability of the app, is making it easier to search for a particular item by searching the item in the search bar.

Design

As far as the design of the app, I like it a lot. Personally, I am a simple person. So the black and white theme and the simplicity of it appeals to my type of aesthetic. What I would recommend for the design is make the category tab a lot less busy. As you can see in the screenshot, there are a lot of categories. You have to first click on the general category and then the specific category. Although I like the way that everything is grouped into specific categories, I feel that it may be a little too overwhelming for some people. taking into consideration that not every shopper knows every piece of garment and their specific names. I think that having a little bit more broader categories would help a lot of shoppers.

Functionality

The functionality of the app is pretty much awesome. There are very few problems that I have had with it. Every button seems to work smoothly and there doesn't seem to be any weird glitches. The only thing that I notice is that sometimes when clicking on an item, there is a slight delay. That being said, my recommendation would be to figure out what is causing that delay and get it fixed.
